Maputo and Nampula, 25 – 31 August 2024
UNIDO ITPO Germany organized a week-long programme for a multi-sectoral delegation of German companies to Mozambique. The visit included participation at the largest multi-sectoral trade show in the country (FACIM), several site visits in the greater Maputo area, participation at an evening reception of the German Ambassador to Mozambique, as well as a field trip the booming north of the country in Nampula.
FACIM Trade Show, which is organized by the Mozambiquan Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEX) is a good opportunity to meet decision-makers from different sectors, both from the private as well as the public sphere. The days at FACIM were packed with high-level meetings, including a visit of the President of Mozambique, h.e. Filipe Nyusi and his delegation to the booth of UNIDO ITPO Germany. Through its stand and the presence at the German Pavilion, ITPO Germany provided visibility to the delegation and represented the companies present at the trade fair. The German pavilion was awarded as the best pavilion of the trade fair the second time in a row. Furthermore, the delegation had an appointment with the Minister of Industry and Trade, h.e. Mr. Silvino Moreno to discuss potential for cooperation and answer the questions of the delegation concerning the topic of industrial engagement in Mozambique. In the evening, the delegation was invited to the residence of the German Ambassador to Mozambique, Mr. Ronald Münch to an evening reception. Several high-level stakeholders were present during the reception. The event was also a good opportunity to connect with German representatives based in Mozambique.
In addition to participating in FACIM, the delegation had the opportunity to visit the Beluluane industrial park by MozParks in Matola, greater Maputo area. The group met with the management of Mozparks, and visited Falcon Steel, part of ETG (steel pipe producer), Bosch Rexroth Africa (industrial maintenance), and Raxio Data Centres (Data Center) within the zone. Furthermore, the group attended a B2B matchmaking event with various local companies, jointly organized by the Câmara de Comércio de Moçambique and hey projects KG.
Field Trip to Nampula
After arriving in Nampula, the delegation participated in a B2B networking event with over 40 local companies, jointly organized by the Câmara de Comércio de Moçambique in Nampula. After fruitful exchanges, the group met with the management of SONIL – Sociedade Do Niassa Lda, a large private sector player in the region active in several sectors such as agribusiness or energy (hydropower projects). On the second day, the group conducted several company visits in Nampula and Rapale to explore the local market and discuss potential for cooperation. This includes meetings with solar companies Sun King and Energy Cooperation lda; the hon. Mayor of Nampula Luís Giquira and representatives from the public waste authority; Helvetas Moçambique; a local producer of sesame oil; the municipal waste dump; Miruku Coop; and New Horizons Mozambique Lda, one of the largest poultry producers in the country.
